The Cook Political Report rates Iowa as a tossup. If you click on "Iowa" in blue below (or on "Senate graphs" to the left of the map), you can see the polls and why Cook might think it will be close. One other factor here that hasn't been discussed much anywhere is the possible correlation between the open Senate race and open gubernatorial race in Iowa. There Cook and others have state Auditor Rob Sand (D) in the lead. For Sand to win and also Hinson, there would have to be a lot of ticket splitting in Iowa, and ticket splitting is getting increasingly rare. It could happen, of course, but it would still be unusual. (V)
