New Senate: 51 Democrats 49 Republicans
News from the Votemaster
William Jefferson, the congressman with the $90,000 of cold cash in his freezer, won reelection in the LA-02 runoff against Karen Carter. Only 60,000 people voted (vs. typically over 200,000 in other CDs). Clearly New Orleans is nowhere near its prehurricane population.
Congressional Quarterly has an excellent three-part wrap up of the midterm elections:Part 1: The Senate
Part 2: Defeated House incumbents
Part 3: Open House seats
