Eleventh Commandment Repealed     Permalink

Ronald Reagan famously said: "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican." In Republican circles, this is known as the "Eleventh commandment." Although Newt Gingrich is a historian, he seems to have missed this bit of history as he and an allied super-PAC are now running very nasty ads in South Carolina attacking Mitt Romney. For example,

Unlike the other candidates, who just want to win, Gingrich is extremely angry with Romney for going negative on him in Iowa. As a consequence, the ads are direct, frontal attacks on Romney himself. These ads, Romney's responses, and South Carolina's long history of Lee Atwater-style politics are going to make for a brutal week until the Jan. 21 primary.
