Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Not much news today, but if you are looking for one good political item to read, try this one from Ronald Brownstein about the coalitions President Obama and Mitt Romney assembled. Obama's consisted of women, young people, and minorities, what Brownstein calls the "coalition of transformation." Romney's "coalition of restoration" yearns for the days when older, married, white, churchgoers ruled the roost. Brownstein speculates that unless Republicans realize this, they are in for some rough sailing in the (presidential election) years ahead. Their one saving grace is that Obama's coalition isn't aware that there are federal elections every two years, not just every four years. So the pattern of Democrats winning big in presidential elections and Republicans winning big in the midterms could become the norm, with disastrous results for governing.
